DNA改造による「生物地雷」が逃走し自己増殖する。人間が食われる側になり、軍やPMC(Private military company)民間軍事会社のエージェントたちが、駆除、被害者救出に奔走する。捕食生物は人間社会に深く入り込み、音もなく襲ってくる。そして爆発的増殖を繰り返す。生物として強力を極めて駆除にも命がけだった。
そんな極限状態の中、戦いの中で2人が恋仲になっていくというストーリーです。小説は3本構成で、一本はオリジナルの日本版で、憑依などオカルトじみた話も入っています。2本目はそれをベースにアメリカ設定の日本語版です。内容は似て非なるもので別物になっていますが、ところどころのエピソードにかぶるものがありますが、オリジナルのエピソドも多いです。3本目はそのアメリカ版の英訳版で、英語話者向けです。
